The Butterfly Project

Our grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012. What started as a simple tremor in his hand evolved to make even the simplest of everyday tasks a huge challenge for him.

In 2015, we started crafting butterfly tokens to raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease.  The butterflies are symbols of hope, inspired by Muhammad Ali’s quote,
“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”.

On August 12, 2022, our grandfather passed away.  In his memory, we are continuing to raise funds in support of the Parkinson Research Consortium at the Ottawa Hospital  – a team of clinicians and researchers dedicated to the quest for a cure for Parkinson’s Disease.  In his honour, “The Francis Mathew Memorial Fellowship” will continue to support the next generation of researchers at the PRC.
